A New Sypher.org

I have decided to replace the CommunityServer running on Sypher.org with Blogger and Flickr. CommunityServer looks like it will be a great tool eventually, but the combination of Blogger and Flickr are a great tool available right now! I have already moved around 1700 of my photos to the Flickr site--which is all of my photos taken from June 2004 to today. I'm currently in the process of tagging the photos I've added. Once that is done, I'll add the rest of my photos from June 2004 and earlier.

I've already purchased a one year membership on Flickr, so I can upload up to 2GB of photos every month! To put that in perspective, I've used about 1.8GB of my December credit uploading the first 1700 photos. Of course, my recent photos are much larger than my old photos, so I should be able to get all of my remaining photos uploaded in January without even coming close to the upload limit.

This means that comments and links to photos on Sypher.org will be disappearing soon. The good news is that Flickr will make it much easier for me to upload new photos quickly, so my photo gallery should stay updated way better than it did on Sypher.org.

When the re-organization is done, the main part of Sypher.org will be my blog from Blogger, and my photos will be available on Flickr through a link from this blog page.

I was shopping on the Web and came across a very interesting error message:

Warning: mysql_connect(): Access denied for user: 'jmedicat@localhost' (Using password: YES) in /home/jmedicat/public_html/e-footwear/open_sql.php on line 6
Error connected MySQL!
Access denied for user: 'jmedicat@localhost' (Using password: YES)

Since this is the kind of thing that gets people fired, I won't tell you which site it was. I was just really surprised to see that someone would put together a Web site error message that includes their username and password for all the world to see! And who uses YES for their password??? At least they used PHP and MySQL, so thier development tools didn't cost them anything. Maybe they can use the money they saved to hire a better developer... :P

Building Our House

Backside at an Angle

I've uploaded a few photos our our new house being built to both Sypher.org and Flickr.com. There are a few more of them on Sypher.org since I'm limited to 20MB per month on Flickr.

I'm used to hosting my own photo gallery, but Flickr looks promising as a stand-alone photo gallery site. I am going to play around with it for a while. If it turns out to be something I really like, I may pay the $26 to be able to upload 2GB of photos per month. That seems like a great price, but it's still $26 more than hosting them myself. We'll see...
